Stephen Fleming links up with England T20I squad ahead of Test coaching takeover
Incoming Test head coach Stephen Fleming has arrived in the UK for a two-week visit to integrate into the England setup before taking full charge for December's Test tour of South Africa.
Shadowing & Logistics: Fleming will travel across the country to visit the ECB Performance Centre at Loughborough, meet county personnel, and join white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum in Manchester to shadow the squad during the third T20I against Sri Lanka.
Key Meetings: He is scheduled to meet with key players, including Test vice-captain Harry Brook and Joe Root, to review the recent 3-0 Test series win over Pakistan and plan player workload management ahead of a congested winter schedule.
Coaching Structure: McCullum emphasized that the split-coaching framework requires close alignment on multi-format players as England prepare for packed schedules, including the South Africa Tests and the 150th Anniversary Test at the MCG in March 2027.
Next Steps: After his UK visit, Fleming will commentate on India's tour of New Zealand before officially taking the reins in South Africa starting December 9.
