Shadman Islam taken to hospital after twisting ankle
After twisting his ankle while fielding on Day 2 of the second Test against the West Indies in Sylhet, Shadman Islam has been taken to the hospital for an MRI scan and additional evaluation.
When he chased the ball after Amir Jangoo had played it towards fine leg in the 78th over of the first innings, the Bangladesh opener suffered the injury. As he was carried off the field on a stretcher, he appeared to be in a lot of pain because he slipped while trying to pick it up. He is currently under observation, with a decision on his availability expected after the MRI report.
In a statement, BCB physio Bayzediul Islam stated, "He twisted his left ankle and was taken to hospital for an MRI scan."
Bangladesh will not be able to bring in a concussion substitute if Shadman is ruled out of the remainder of the Test, as his injury is unrelated to the head. As a result, they would have to continue the match with just ten players.
Update: The BCB physio confirmed that Shadman is not in a position to bat in the first innings.
"Today, Shadman broke his left ankle. So he couldn't field anymore," physio Bayzediul Islam said after the day's play. "We have kept him under observation. He was scanned as well. He appears to be hurt. Tomorrow, we will receive the report from Shadman's injury scan, and then we will have access to all of the information at a later time. However, at the moment he is not in a condition to bat in the first innings".
