Milestone Debut: Jintimani Kalita Steps Up for Historic India vs Zimbabwe ODI
Historic Encounter: This match marks the very first women's ODI played between India and Zimbabwe, serving as India's opening fixture of the new ICC Women's Championship cycle running through the 2029 ODI World Cup.
Toss & Leadership: Stand-in Zimbabwe captain Nomvelo Sibanda won the toss and opted to bat (field first). Regular captain Josephine Nkomo was sidelined with a minor niggle.
Venue Conditions: Played at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, featuring a red-soil pitch (contrasting with the black-soil surface used during the WPL earlier in the year).
Key Selection Updates
Jintimani Kalita's Debut: Seam-bowling allrounder Jintimani Kalita received her maiden India cap from Harmanpreet Kaur. She came into the squad as a replacement for Renuka Singh, who was left out to build up bowling volume for the 50-over format.
Team Changes: N Shree Charani got the nod as the preferred left-arm spinner, while Tejal Hasabnis slotted in at No. 5 in place of a recovering Jemimah Rodrigues.
N Shree Charani was the preferred left-arm spinner over Vaishnavi Sharma, with vice-captain Deepti Sharma the other frontline option. Pratika Rawal, pencilled to bat at No. 3, as well as Shafali Verma can also bowl offspin. Maharashtra batter Tejal Hasabnis was slotted at No. 5, which a fit Jemimah Rodrigues would have otherwise occupied.
