After being added to Australia's squad for the three-match series against South Africa, fast bowler Jack Edwards may make his ODI debut. In preparation for Thursday's opening One-Day International, the all-rounder is currently traveling to Durban from Puducherry, India, where he was practicing for Australia A's four-day match against India A. After suffering a side strain in the second one-day international against Zimbabwe, fast bowler Billy Stanlake has been declared ineligible for the series. Stanlake pulled up midway through his fifth over and will undergo scans after returning to Australia. In contrast, Spencer Johnson has been released from the team despite playing in two of the three one-day internationals against Zimbabwe. The left arm quick has been deemed surplus to requirements for the South Africa series despite not being injured. He will join the Australia A squad for their three 50-over games in Puducherry next month. Johnson returned to ODI cricket after an 18-month absence. He took two wickets and contributed to a 27-run last-wicket stand in Australia's thrilling victory over Zimbabwe on Sunday. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will join Australia's squad in Durban. Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, and Xavier Bartlett are the other pace options. The ODIs will be played on September 24, 27 and 30 in Durban, Johannesburg and Potchefstroom respectively.
