The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed former England top-order batter Jonathan Trott as the new head coach of the England Lions for their upcoming winter schedule. Flintoff's Successor: Trott succeeds former teammate Andrew Flintoff, who stepped down in August to take over as the head coach of Big Bash League franchise Sydney Thunder.   Proven Coaching Track Record: Trott recently concluded a successful four-year stint as Afghanistan's head coach (2022–2026), guiding them to their maiden ICC T20 World Cup semi-final in 2024.   Prior Interim Role: The appointment comes shortly after Trott served as interim coach for the Lions' recent two-match T20I series victory over Sri Lanka. Full Circle Return: Trott featured in 22 matches for the England Lions as a player before earning his Test call-up in 2009.   Winter Schedule Focus: Trott will oversee three upcoming tours—the West Indies, South Africa, and Sri Lanka—with a primary focus on 50-over cricket to develop the next generation of England's ODI talent.
