Anrich Nortje ruled out of Cape Town decider with groin injury
Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the third and final Test between South Africa and Australia in Cape Town due to a "mild" groin injury that occurred in Gqeberha. The hosts have chosen to use an otherwise unchanged team for the decider, which begins on October 27.
In the first innings of the Gqeberha Test, Nortje only bowled 3.3 overs before pulling up with a groin injury and being taken off the field. He didn't play any more in the game, which didn't stop South Africa from winning by an innings and 31 runs to level the series.
Nortje’s injury opens the door for one of Corbin Bosch, Gerald Coetzee or Dane Paterson to feature in Cape Town, should South Africa stick to a four-man seam attack. They also have Keshav Maharaj, a left-arm spinner who was left out of Gqeberha because Simon Harmer was kept as the only spinner.
After being dropped for the second Test, Ryan Rickelton took the gloves and moved down the order, and Kyle Verreynne has been retained in the team as the backup wicket-keeper.
The two teams will compete in the decider at Newlands from October 27 to 31 with the series tied at 1.
