England won the ODI series against Sri Lanka 2-1 with a commanding 223-run victory at The Oval thanks to a dominating all-round performance. After choosing to bat, England scored a staggering 355 for 7 with the help of Tom Banton's first ODI hundred, 70s from Harry Brook and Jordan Cox, and a massive total of 355 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka could only muster 132, with Kusal Mendis's 35 being the highest score, as Liam Dawson and Gus Atkinson shared five wickets to expedite England's comprehensive win, which gave them their fifth consecutive bilateral ODI series win over Sri Lanka. Ben Duckett fell for a five-ball duck in the second over, bowled by Dilshan Madushanka. England reached 50 for 1 after ten overs when Joe Root joined Banton to steady the innings. Banton provided most of the momentum, striking boundaries on either side of the wicket. Root, on the other hand, had a lucky break when Pathum Nissanka spilled a thick outside edge at slip in the ninth over, but he struggled to get going as he faced 12 dots in a row. At the other end, Banton was scoring freely and hit his first six in the 14th over by uppercutting Madushanka. Root was trapped leg-before by Janith Liyanage for 18 off 37 as the second wicket pair added 62 runs, and Sri Lanka successfully used the review. Banton scored fifty or more for the second time in a row, and Brook, like Root, struggled with fluency. In the 21st over, Brook edged Dunith Wellalage's delivery, and keeper Kusal Mendis was unable to hold on to the opportunity. Additionally, Sri Lanka chose not to review Brook's lbw appeal later in the innings because UltraEdge indicated that some glove was involved. They also lost a review when Sachindu Colombage thought he had Banton out lbw but a faint outside edge came to the batter's rescue. After that, Cox hit a fifty off 42 balls and added to his total of boundaries before Fernando struck off the final two balls of the innings. However, England had a successful conclusion, scoring 104 runs in the final ten overs and 57 runs in the final five. Nissanka got out for one in the first over of the chase for Sri Lanka, edging Sonny Baker behind for his first ODI wicket. Kusal hit two sixes off Gus Atkinson, while Kamindu Mendis hit a couple of boundaries. However, the partnership was short-lived as Kamindu was bowled out by Atkinson. After hitting a boundary off Atkinson and a six and a four off Baker, Kusal ended up top-edging one to midwicket to leave for 35 off 26 as Atkinson took his second wicket. Jofra Archer only bowled the 10th over; Pavan Rathnayake hit him for two fours, putting Sri Lanka at 63 for 3. Rathnayake and Charith Asalanka built a watchful partnership, with the latter finding it difficult to rotate strike. Rathnayake was run out by the pressure, but the third umpire ultimately decided in favor of the bowling team because Cox had disturbed the bails before Archer's direct hit uprooted the stump. Asalanka departed in the next over, for a 19-ball 7, as he miscued a pull off Root. Sri Lanka's troubles continued with Liam Dawson bagging the wicket of Wellalage, whose attempted slog-sweep caused his downfall, reducing the visitors to 82 for 6 in the 17th over. Sri Lanka continued to lose wickets as Liyanage attempted a counterattack by hitting a four and a six off Root, but Colombage was stumped out in Dawson's over. It became 106 for 8 when Liyanage top-edged a pull off Overton to depart for 19. Dawson sent Fernando back for 6 to pick up his third wicket of the innings. Malinga hit a couple of boundaries off Dawson before being bowled by Jacks. Root took a stunning catch at leg-slip as England won easily over Sri Lanka in the 30th over.
