Megan Schutt Handed Two-Match Ban by Cricket Australia Over Medication Breach
The Penalty: Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt has been handed a two-match suspension by Cricket Australia (CA) after accepting a penalty for breaching internal protocols.
The Infraction: The breach involved a "failure to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines with regard to prescription medication" during an out-of-competition period prior to the series against Bangladesh.
Non-Performance Related: CA confirmed that the medication in question was not performance-enhancing and that the incident was a one-off occurrence during an off-period. However, players are strictly required to report personal prescriptions under internal medical guidelines.
Affected Fixtures
Matches Missed: The two-match ban spans both international and domestic fixtures, keeping Schutt out of:
The third T20I against New Zealand Women.
The opening match of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) for the Adelaide Strikers Women against the Melbourne Stars on October 31. Timeline Note: Schutt actually played several matches (including a WNCL game and the ODI series against Bangladesh) while CA's investigation was ongoing, but she accepted the final penalty following its completion.
Reactions & Statements
CA's Stance: Cricket Australia stated they will continue to provide support to Schutt while reinforcing the standards and responsibilities expected of all national representatives. Schutt's Apology: Schutt fully accepted the penalty, stating:
"I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me... While this occurred out of competition and was not performance related, I understand that I am responsible for following the Sports Science and Sports Medicine Guidelines."
