FanCode bags digital rights for India-Japan one-off T20I

Even though major international players are still competing for the international digital rights, FanCode has secured the streaming rights for the Japan-India Twenty20 International. Sony, Star, and Zee are in talks about the television rights, so a decision is expected within the next 24 hours. FanCode, which has been working closely with the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) on pathway cricket, has secured the rights to stream the September 22 game in India. The first ball is scheduled to be called at 9.30 a.m. IST and will be played at the Sano International Stadium in Tochigi Prefecture. In the meantime, it is understood that YouTube and Netflix might get involved in the competition for the game's global rights. The recently globalized JioHotstar service may also be one of the potential bidders. The fact that the governments of India and Japan support the one-off game, which will be played simultaneously with the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, has piqued the interest of the major players. The international fixture will launch the celebration of 75th anniversary of India-Japan diplomatic relations. The exclusive global sports production, broadcast distribution, and commercial marketing rights for the historic one-off T20I match have been officially secured by ITW Universe, which acquired the rights. As part of this comprehensive mandate, ITW Universe owns the broadcast feed and commercial inventory for the historic event, according to a press release. A statement issued by the event's organizers to the media stated, "Held alongside the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, the match presents an unprecedented opportunity to take Indian cricket into a new market and build long-term visibility in Japan." "This historic T20I between India and Japan marks a significant turning point in the expansion of cricket in Japan. Partnering with ITW Universe ensures that this fixture will be produced and marketed to the highest global standards, giving fans in Japan, India, and around the world a top-tier viewing experience while inspiring a whole new generation of cricket enthusiasts in our country," Naoki Alex Miyaji, CEO, Japan Cricket Association (JCA), said. "For ITW Universe, securing the exclusive rights to this historic match is a proud achievement. This historic match between India and Japan will take place for the very first time on Japanese soil. Having full control over the broadcast and commercial footprint allows us to build a premium, world-class experience for viewers while offering an unmissable, first-mover platform for brands and media networks," Bhairav Shanth, Co-Founder, ITW Universe, said.
