Cricket Ireland has officially appointed former international batter Ed Joyce as their new High Performance Batting Coach, effective immediately. Scope of the Role: Joyce will work directly with the Ireland Men's senior squad while also overseeing player development across the male talent pathway. Coaching Staff Integration: He joins the men's setup to work alongside Men’s Head Coach Gary Wilson and Director of High Performance Graeme West. Transition from Women's Program: Joyce returns to national coaching after serving nearly six years as the Head Coach of the Ireland Women's team (2019 to early 2025), where he led them to landmark wins over top-tier sides and qualification for the 2023 ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Pedigree & Playing Background: Widely regarded as one of Ireland's finest batters, Joyce played 151 times for Ireland (scoring 5,552 runs at an average of 40.82) alongside 19 international appearances for England before retiring in 2018. Core Philosophy: Joyce highlighted that while the modern game increasingly emphasizes power-hitting, sound technical fundamentals and a positive mindset remain crucial, stating his primary goal is helping Ireland's batting unit build greater consistency on the international stage.
