Vishmi Gunaratne has been recalled to the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan. Return to the squad Gunaratne is back in Sri Lanka’s ODI setup after being out of the team. The recall comes ahead of Sri Lanka’s ODI matches vs Pakistan. The young opener adds depth to Sri Lanka’s top order for the series. Gunaratne gets another chance in national colors as Sri Lanka refresh their squad for the Pakistan ODIs. Wicketkeeper Anushka Sanjeewani and uncapped seamer Rashmika Sewwandi also earned recalls with Kaushini Nuthyangana, Piumi Wathsala, Malki Madara and Sugandika Kumari all making way from the side that swept Bangladesh 3-0 in April. Of those excluded, Madara might feel the most hard-done by. The 25-year-old seamer had picked up eight wickets across six ODIs since the start of the year - her most effective period in the format since debuting in 2025 - but Sri Lanka have opted to trial 19-year-old quick Sewwandi instead. Spin exclusion With Hambantota pitches not expected to turn much, Sri Lanka left out Kumari as the squad was cut from 16 to 15. They still have spin cover with Inoka Ranaweera, Dewmi Vihanga, Kavisha Dilhari, Nimasha Meepage and Chamari Athapaththu. Hasini Perera has been opening since the start of the year: 229 runs @ 38.16 with 2 fifties. She also did well at No.3 late last year: 44, 4, 85 in 3 innings. That suggests Perera could drop back to 3 to make room for Gunaratne to open. Flat conditions in Hambantota meant one less spinner, and Gunaratne’s return forces Sri Lanka to decide whether to shift the in-form Perera down the order for the ODIs and T20s.
