S Meghana Binds Career to Mentorship After Retiring From All Forms of Cricket
The Decision: Top-order batter S Meghana has officially retired from all formats of cricket at the age of 30.
Farewell Note: In her retirement statement, she expressed deep gratitude for her journey, noting, "The field has been my second home, teaching me resilience, humility, and giving me memories and friendships that I will carry for a lifetime." She also shared her intention to stay connected to the game by mentoring the next generation of women cricketers.
International Career Highlights
Caps: Meghana played 20 white-ball matches for India Women across her career, making her T20I debut in November 2016 against West Indies.
Formats:
T20Is: Scored 258 runs across 17 matches at a strike rate of 102.78, including one half-century. ODIs: Played three ODIs during India's tour of New Zealand in February 2022, where she made an impact with scores of 49 and 61, aggregating 114 runs in the format. Her last international appearance for India came in October 2022.
It is fitting that this win arrived the very same week a new cricket constitution is being evaluated by the nation's highest court. The belief that the game must be fixed off the field before it can flourish on it has been the defining mantra of the Cricket Transformation Committee. It isn't entirely wrong. Sri Lankan cricket has long been weighed down by a bloated domestic system, antiquated coaching methods, and pitches unfit for modern development. Consequently, it has churned out a generation of cricketers detached from the modern demands of white-ball cricket.
Franchise Cricket (WPL)
The WPL Journey: Meghana played three seasons in the Women's Premier League, starting with the Gujarat Giants before moving to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Triumph: She was a proud member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad that clinched the WPL title in 2024.
