PSL 12 to kick off on March 18, final on May 2
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Thursday (October 8) that the 12th season of the Pakistan Super League would begin on March 18, 2027. The tournament will continue in its current form, with eight teams participating for the first time this year. The final is scheduled to be held on May 2.
The window, finalised following consultations with the teams and other stakeholders at the PSL Governing Council meeting in London on September 1, will see a schedule clash with the Indian Premier League once again. Although the schedule for IPL 2027 has not yet been determined, there are indications that the 20th season will begin in mid-March.
The schedule clash could bring its own challenges. A few players left their PSL contracts last year to join the Indian Premier League as replacements. Spencer Johnson, who Quetta Gladiators had announced as a direct signing, was one of them. After that, Johnson left the Premier Soccer League for personal reasons and signed with Chennai Super Kings to replace Nathan Ellis.
As a replacement, Dasun Shanaka, who was signed by Lahore Qalandars, joined Rajasthan Royals, and Blessing Muzarabani left Islamabad United to join Kolkata Knight Riders. After that, the PSL handed Muzarabani a two-year ban.
In the meantime, the PSL underwent a significant transformation in the 2026 season as well. For the first time, the player draft was replaced by an auction. A record 32,461 people attended the final at Gaddafi Stadium, where Peshawar Zalmi defeated Hyderabad Kingsmen, who were competing for the first time, to win the championship.
A number of significant milestones, including direct signings, retentions, the trade window, and the player auction, will occur now that the window for the 2027 season has been locked down.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the league would look to build on the success of the previous season. “HBL PSL 11 demonstrated to the world the capabilities of this league, with thrilling moments that captivated the nation as a whole, record crowds, and record broadcasts.
"HBL PSL 12 will raise the bar further. Naqvi stated, "We are committed to producing another outstanding season and look forward to seeing all eight franchises compete once more for the title."
