Prabath Jayasuriya, a spinner for Sri Lanka, is the third player to be punished for an incident that occurred during the second ICC World Test Championship match against India. Jayasuriyawas was found to have violated "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match" in Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. He's received an official reprimand and one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record. In 24 months, this was Jayasuriya's first offense. On his way back to the pavilion on Monday, August 24, Jayasuriya struck the boundary wedges with his bat after being dismissed on the final delivery of the day. Jayasuriya acknowledged the offense and accepted the punishment that Andy Pycroft, the match referee, proposed. The charge was leveled by the on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, the third umpire Rod Tucker, and the fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella. After Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando received 25% match-fee penalties for their involvement in the incident on the first day of the game, Jayasuriya is now the third player from the Colombo Test to be sanctioned by the ICC. Theon-field altercation saw them slapped with a demerit point each as well. After Jaiswal was bowled out by Fernando in the 17th over of India's first innings, the incident occurred. Fernando turned his head toward Jaiswal after the India batter had approached Fernando and exchanged words with him. In response, Jaiswal leant in, resulting in their heads making contact.
