Bangladesh's Nigar Sultana is set to step down as T20I captain following the Asian Games. It understands that Nigar had already informed the board of her decision to step down as 20-over captain because she wants to concentrate more on her batting and wicketkeeping while still leading the team in ODIs. In a letter sent from Japan on Tuesday (September 15), Nigar made the official announcement to the board. Nigar has led Bangladesh's T20I side since taking over the captaincy in 2022. At the 2024 T20 World Cup, Bangladesh's victory over Scotland, their first World Cup victory in a decade, was one of her greatest accomplishments. Nigar also made a significant contribution with the bat and gloves in that tournament, scoring 104 runs in four innings and effecting seven dismissals behind the wickets. Her captaincy in the shortest format, however, has had its share of ups and downs. Earlier in 2026, Bangladesh won the World Cup qualifiers without losing a game. However, a 2-1 home series defeat to Sri Lanka, mixed results in the Scotland-Netherlands tri-series, and two wins from five matches at the World Cup put her leadership in question.
