Jimmy Adams Departs Hampshire After 25 Years to Take Up Coaching Role in Tasmania
End of a Quarter-Century Era: Jimmy Adams has officially ended his 25-year association with Hampshire County Cricket Club, transitioning from his roles as a player, captain, and backroom/coaching staff member.
New Australian Role: Adams has accepted a high-profile coaching position in Australia, joining Cricket Tasmania as their new Senior Batting Coach. His responsibilities will span across the Tasmanian Tigers red-ball/white-ball sides and the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL).
Hampshire Legacy: Arriving initially as an overseas player, Adams went on to captain Hampshire to domestic silverware, amass thousands of runs in county cricket, and later transition smoothly into influential off-field and coaching roles within the club.
Tribute from Hampshire: Hampshire CEO and Director of Cricket paid emotional tributes to Adams, praising his extraordinary loyalty, leadership, and contributions to the county across two and a half decades. Looking Ahead: Adams relocates to Hobart to begin his tenure ahead of the upcoming Australian domestic summer season, bringing his wealth of English county experience to the Tasmanian setup.
White said: "We're sad to see Jimmy Adams leave, but delighted for him and the Adams family as they embark on an exciting new opportunity in Australia with Tasmania. A fantastic player, captain and coach for the club over 25 years, Jimmy has embodied our values throughout his time here.
"His incredible work ethic and selfless approach have been evident in every role he has undertaken, and he will be greatly missed. We wish Jimmy and the Adams family every success and happiness and look forward to welcoming him back in the future."
Adams is not the only batting coach leaving a county role at the end of this season. Jim Troughton has rejoined Warwickshire after five seasons with Surrey, who are expected to announce the arrival of Grant Flower from Sussex next week.
