India's Bangladesh tour hits another roadblock, postponement likely

India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh—comprising three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled for early September 2026—faces potential postponement or rescheduling as the BCCI and BCB continue negotiations. Scheduling Uncertainty: With the first ODI slated for September 3 in Dhaka, BCB president Tamim Iqbal indicated that while discussions between the two boards remain ongoing, the exact dates could be shifted. Domestic Tournament Conflict: The BCB announced the Game Development Trophy (August 28 to September 9) at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Tamim noted that the age-group tournament could quickly be moved to the Basundhara ground if the India series schedule is finalized. A Series Delayed: Originally planned for August 2025, the series was deferred to September 2026. While the BCB previously announced the fixtures in January, the BCCI has yet to make a public confirmation. Thawing Bilateral Relations: Tensions between the boards escalated earlier after Kolkata Knight Riders withdrew Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL and Bangladesh subsequently opted not to travel for the co-hosted T20 World Cup. However, relations have reportedly improved following Tamim Iqbal's recent visit to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Following the BCB's announcement of the tour in January, the relationship between the two boards reached the nadir when the Kolkata Knight Riders withdrew Mustafizur Rahman from this season's IPL. Following that, the Aminul Islam-led BCB refused to send the team to the T20 World Cup, which was co-hosted by India.
