Hardik Pandya Ruled Out of Australia A Series Due to Fresh Shin Injury
India star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has suffered another setback in his recovery journey after sustaining a fresh shin injury, ruling him out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia A starting October 6 in Puducherry.
Fresh Injury & Complete Rest: Having been conditionally named in the India A squad subject to fitness clearance, Pandya suffered a shin issue during rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) and has been advised complete rest and no serious physical activity for at least 15 days.
Prolonged Absence: Pandya has been out of competitive cricket since late May following back spasms during IPL 2026, followed by a leg strain in June that ruled him out of the Afghanistan ODI series.
Doubts Over New Zealand Tour: The Australia A series was meant to assess his ability to bowl his full 10-over quota ahead of India's five-match ODI series against New Zealand starting November 4, which now remains in serious doubt. India head coach Gautam Gambhir recently said that both Hardik and Jasprit Bumrah were "extremely important" for the World Cup plans.
Gambhir's Caution: India head coach Gautam Gambhir reiterated that Pandya will not be rushed back into international action until fully fit to bowl 10 overs, prioritizing his long-term fitness ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Opportunity for Nitish Kumar Reddy: With Pandya unavailable, seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was withdrawn from the Asian Games squad to gain crucial white-ball game time against the West Indies.
